Dental Crowns Uptown Charlotte NC
Make your smile beautiful again
When a tooth cracks or gets extensive decay, we recommend protecting it with a porcelain crown. When existing dental crowns or dental fillings start to break down, we are able to replace them with porcelain restorations that look and feel like natural teeth. We use a very advanced porcelain that is beautiful yet extremely durable, making it a perfect choice for any tooth.
How long does it take to fit a dental crown?
Fitting a crown typically requires two visits to our office. Initially, we will remove decay and any old filling materials and shape the tooth, making room for the thickness of a crown. Instead of messy impressions, we use our digital scanner to record the contours of the involved tooth as well as the surrounding teeth. After sending the images through a secure cloud, our dental lab is able to make a custom fitted, perfectly sealed porcelain crown. In the interim, a temporary crown is placed on the tooth to protect it.
On the subsequent visit, the temporary crown is removed and the final crown is tried in the mouth. Often, minor adjustments are needed to assure the crown fits naturally in the the arch. Once it is properly fitted, the crown is cemented into place.

What are the capabilities of crowns?
Dental crowns and/or dental bridges can be used as a very reliable solution for the restoration of teeth that have been damaged by cavities, cracks, accidents, malocclusion, or just “wear and tear.”
Many people have unexplained pain from filled back teeth, which is usually due to hairline cracks in the chewing part of the tooth. Placing crowns on these teeth relieves the pain and allows a return of full dental function for these teeth. In front teeth, older fillings can both weaken the teeth and cause “appearance” problems due to staining or chipping. Porcelain crowns and bridges are suitable in cases where porcelain veneers are not. In teeth with root canal fillings, crowns can prevent breakage.
